    The State Of Your Subject

Some people you see flat out struggling. Beautiful people with relatives somewhere at some time. People with pasts, presents and futures, abused by the effects of hardship or drugs. Not all of them, but a good amount. Many people laugh at it, however it is really just sad and unfortunate. The following woman I took some pictures of was in her own world, unaware of what I was doing, and feeling no threat about who or what’s around her because of what she was on. When I view this, I can see through her, that she is just a human who is lacking something. We are all lacking something. Humans need things and when we can’t get things we need, we fill the blanks.

When you really look at people, you can see how beautiful they are and how much more beautiful they have the potential to be; If only they were shown as much love as you and me.

    Hostile Architecture

Hostile architecture is a modern method of urban design that is meant to direct/guide behavior through aspects of the design. It frequently targets groups that use or depend on public space more than others, such as the homeless community.

The following photos are examples of Hostile Architecture. This fountain has always been a pristine blue color until the city made the decision to dye it this vomit-green color in order to prevent the homeless from bathing in and using the water.

The armrests on this bench purposely prevent the ability to lie down/sleep on the bench.

This creates less places for the homeless to sleep off the ground, something we take for granted.

If you pay close attention, you can find many examples of hostile and exclusive architecture around your city.
